Namely, in a lot of faiths such as Islam and also really academic forms of orthodox Christianity, theurgy is outright heretical superstition because you can not compel the God(s) to do your will; instead, they consider prayer to be for an internal effect of aligning your will to God's will as opposed to the other way around.
